Heliport / Helipad Lighting Systems & Helicopter Landing Lights

Helideck Lighting recommendations for ICAO and FAA surface-level heliports:

Final Approach and Take Off (FATO) lights.
Touchdown and Lift-off area (TLOF) lights.
Flight path alignment guidance lights to indicate available approach and/or departure path direction.
An illuminated wind direction indicator to indicate wind direction and speed.
Heliport beacon for identification of the heliport if required.
Floodlights around the TLOF if required.
Obstruction lights for marking obstacles in the vicinity of the approach and departure paths.
Taxiway lighting where applicable.

In addition, surface-level ICAO heliports must include:

Approach lights to indicate the preferred approach direction.
Aiming point lighting if the pilot is required to approach a particular point above the FATO before proceeding to the TLOF.

Landing direction lights may be required for directional guidance.

Heliport Lighting is typically used to delineate the boundaries of a helipad or helideck, to provide visual guidance for pilots, and to provide visual reference for night operations. It consists of a combination of red and white lights, including perimeter lights, obstruction lights, and landing lights.

Perimeter lights are designed to clearly define the boundaries of the helipad or helideck. They are typically red in color and are placed along the perimeter of the helipad or helideck.

Obstruction lights are used to identify obstacles near the helipad or helideck, such as tall buildings or trees. They are typically white in color and are placed on the obstacles to be identified.

Landing lights are used to provide visual guidance for pilots during night operations. They are typically white in color and are placed on the perimeter of the helipad or helideck.

Replacement bulbs for heliport lighting are typically LED lamps. LED lamps offer several advantages over traditional incandescent lamps, including longer life, lower energy consumption, and improved light quality. LED lamps are also more resistant to vibration and shock, making them ideal for heliport lighting applications.

EHP-L - Heliport Perimeter, Elevated, LED

The EHP-L LED fixture is used for general aviation use as a heliport perimeter light. The green and yellow omnidirectional light is used to define the perimeter of the area the helicopter requires for touchdown and lift-off (TLOF). Yellow heliport lights are used on existing applications, while green lights are typically used for new applications.

The low-intensity 8-inch FTO-H lights are part of a comprehensive range of 8 and 12 inch diameter inset lights for all aviation ground lighting requirements, specifically heliport lighting, including Touch-down and Lift-off (TLOF) and Final Approach and Takeoff (FATO) areas.

The IUL-L LED fixture can be used for gate security, under vehicle inspection illumination, in high security areas to protect entrances to security areas.
