    The Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) is a visual guidance lighting system that provides pilots with essential information regarding the correct approach to an airport. It is typically located beside the runway and helps pilots maintain the correct glide path during landing.

    The primary purpose of PAPI is to assist pilots in achieving a safe and accurate descent angle as they approach the runway. By utilizing a series of lights, usually consisting of four light units, PAPI provides visual cues that indicate whether the aircraft is too high or too low in relation to the desired glide path.

    Each light unit in the PAPI system emits a combination of red and white lights. When an aircraft is on the correct glide path, two white lights and two red lights are visible to the pilot. This indicates that they are approaching at an optimal angle for landing.

    If an aircraft is too high, more red lights will be visible than white lights. Conversely, if it is too low, more white lights will be visible than red lights. This allows pilots to make immediate adjustments to their descent angle and ensure a safe landing.
